Product Description

The Starrett 1175MZ Dial Indicator 81-181-1175 Groove Gauge is used for measuring inner diameter (ID) grooves and internal recesses, reads to 0.01 mm, has a dial reading of + or - 100 graduations, and a total measurement range of 2.5 mm. Two sets of interchangeable jaws measure to gauging depths of 32- and 64-mm, and three sets of interchangeable contacts are used with 9.5 - 150-mm bore diameters, 2.5 - 6.7-mm groove depths, and 0.6 - 1.3-mm groove widths. The moveable gauging contacts have a 12.7-mm retractable range, are made from hardened steel and have a chrome finish for long life, and flush ends for gauging blind holes. The fixed lower jaw supports the weight of the gauge and the operator’s hands, preventing incorrect gauging pressure and false readings. A fine adjustment screw and lock help provide additional accuracy.

Dial indicators may also be called dial gauges, dial calipers, and probe indicators. These precision measuring tools are used to accurately measure small linear distances and object sizes. The dial magnifies the measurement so that it can more easily be read by the human eye. Frequently used in manufacturing, laboratories, and other industrial or mechanical fields, dial indicators are used anywhere a small measurement must be found and recorded or transferred, such as checking the variation in tolerance of a workpiece. Dial test indicators are very similar to dial indicators, except that the axis of measurement is perpendicular to the axis of the indicator. Standard dial indicators measure the displacement along the axis of the indicator. Dial indicators can be analog, with a mechanical dial, or electronic, with a digital display. Some electronic models transfer the data electronically to a computer for recording and potential manipulation.

The L.S. Starrett Company manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology and testing equipment, and saw blade products. The company was founded in 1880 and is headquartered in Athol, MA.
